#4 Rolf and the Everglades

He did not appreciate much for being locked up, again. Looking on the bright side, at least he wasn't being forced to mandatory labor, but regardless, being confined was not to his liking. He was placed in a cave like area with the opening of the same likeness of a cave. A few drips of water can be heard here and there, echoing off the cavern walls. With the bars installed from one end of the walls to the other, yet not back wall could be seen. Just dark, dank gloom from behind, while strong metal bars at the front. Two guards stood a little ways from the entrance, eating on what animals were caught, cooked and brought to them. The sun is going down, and his eyes were adjusting to the dark, somewhat better but the chill was getting to his bones with his limited prisoner clothing. He kept looking for a way out, there has got to be somewhere.....
"I haven't even done anything wrong to you people....." He muttered to himself. He wanted to see what lies in the inner cave, maybe a way out, but maybe eternal darkness with no escape. "Hey! What is this place!?" He yelled out to the guards, gorging on the meat. "You're in the Hilldaland! Now shut up so we can eat!" The bigger yelled back. "What about my horse!? Where did you put....... him?" He asked. "Your horse is being treated better than you could ever treat it. Now shut your mouth!" "What's beyond this cave?" He asked annoyingly.
"If you don't keep quiet.......!" "What? You going to come in here and beat me?"
"Beyond in there.... Nobody knows. Anymore stupid questions?" "No, that's good, thanks."
He went back to eating his food, while Rolf began looking around. "Oh yea! do I get to eat!?" "If you keep this up, you'll be lucky to get anything to stay warm tonight."
Realizing there was no way to get these guards to fall for any anger outbursts, he started searching for anything that could aid him. He found: a metal plate, spoon, fork and knife, and a dead body a little further in the cave. Looked to have been the body of an aged man. "Wonder if they just let all there prisoners die this old....." He muttered to himself. "Well, I'm going to try it, when the guards change shifts....."
As night came, the guards changed. "Hey! Where's the prisoner!?" "He was just there!"
"That cave leads the way out....." He whispered hoarsely to one of the guards. "I'll keep the keys, get in there and find him!"
Taking one of the torches from the entrance of the cave, the guard went into the prison cell. "Hey! Just show yourself and no harm will become of you!" Not hearing a response, he dared to venture deeper..... For half the hour, the other guards waited, now with anticipation. "Eh, he's hiding behind a rock back there like a coward dog! Haha!" He grunted walking back. Unlocking the gate, the Captain of the guard yelled, "No! close the door! That's not him!" Rolf, already now rushing towards the entrance, bull rushed the gate, flinging it open as it threw the guard opening back. Grunting, the guard collapsed on the ground, somewhat disoriented. "Stop him! He belongs to the king!" Realizing his dire situation, where no agreement could be made, he ran, stripping off the weighted armor to spring faster. His eyes kept jetting everywhere for a place that he might could hide in. After having run several minutes, down a hill, he stopped to see his progress of leaving behind the guards. The guards, still in pursuit, were lagging behind. He saw the village lights to the east, but the forest to the south. His choice.... to leave the horse and press on foot, or go for it and risk it...... With this choice, he pressed on.....
